Dr. Rondina's laboratory focuses on discovering how inflammation alters gene expression in platelets and their progenitor cells, megakaryocytes. Major ongoing efforts are (1) using innovative sequencing technologies to comprehensively map changes in cell gene expression; (2) determining how changes in gene expression regulate function in stem cell and peripheral blood compartments; (3) establishing the functional impact of these changes on host outcomes; and (4) applying AI/ML computational approaches to enable the use of gene expression changes to improve early cancer diagnostics.
