I just saw Dr. Spiker for a one-year follow up of a lumbar spinal fusion. This was my second fusion, which, while not common, was expected given the sad condition of my back. My first fusion came around the time of a politically popular slogan "Build back better." I said to myself then, let's hope Dr. Spiker can "build BACKS better." He did. Finally, I can walk normally. I now *prefer* sitting in a correct posture, now that it feels *better* than a slouching poor posture. I don't have to second guess every movement I make; I can hike for a few miles now pain free; I can do all the simple things that used to be so frustrating pre-op. He is a marvel.

Dr. Spiker is very knowledgeable, however I left with questions unasked & felt like surgery was the only option. I wondered if steroids pill form or steroid shot would be an option to see if it helps.
