Research to Prevent Blindness Awards Unrestricted Grant to Moran Eye Center

Research to Prevent Blindness (RPB) has selected the John A. Moran Eye Center at the Ï㽶ÊÓƵ of Utah to receive an unrestricted annual grant of $115,000 to support eye research.

The funding begins January 1, 2023, and is the third year of a five-year award.

RPB awarded the funding based on a thorough review of criteria, including Moran's , laboratory environment, and clinical and scientific staff, as evaluated by RPB's renowned Scientific Advisory Panel. The funds will be deployed at the discretion of Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences Distinguished Professor and Chair Randall J Olson, MD, to provide maximum flexibility in developing and expanding eye research programs and fostering creative planning beyond the scope of restricted project grants.

"We couldn't be more grateful to have a partner like RPB supporting the groundbreaking research taking place in our 15 labs here at the Moran Eye Center," said Olson.

Since it was founded in 1960, RPB has channeled more than $403 million into eye research. As a result, RPB has been identified with nearly every major breakthrough in vision research in that time.
