Brow lifts, also known as forehead lifts, reduce the appearance of wrinkle lines on your forehead. Brow lifts can also correct:

  • sagging brows or deep furrows between your eyes,
  • lines on the bridge of your nose and between the eyes,
  • frown lines and vertical creases between your eyebrows, and
  • wrinkled skin or eyelids blocking your vision.

Types of Brow Lifts

U of U Health offers two types of brow lifts to refresh your brow and forehead: open and endoscopic. Surgeons remove extra fat and skin from your face and tighten the muscles in your forehead and brow area during both open and endoscopic brow lifts.

Open Brow Lift

This outpatient procedure takes about two hours. Your surgeon will make an incision either just in front of your hairline or an inch behind the hairline, so the scar will be hidden by your hair.

Your skin will be lifted and elevated upward, raising your brow and tightening the skin on your forehead. Any extra skin will be removed.

Endoscopic Brow Lift

An endoscopic brow lift is also an outpatient procedure and takes between one and two hours. Your surgeon will make three small incisions just behind your hairline and use a camera on a scope and absorbable plates to pull and secure your skin back.

This procedure will raise your brow and tighten the skin on your forehead. Any extra skin will be removed.

Brow Lift Recovery Time

Brow lift recovery typically lasts about a week. Some patients experience numbness on the scalp, which varies in location and duration.

Twenty-Four Hours After Surgery

It’s important to plan accordingly for your first night home. Arrange to have a family member or friend who is dedicated to taking care of only you during the first 24 hours of recovery. You’ll likely feel the effects of the anesthesia and prescription pain medication after surgery, which means no driving. Some patients consider arranging for some extra help with their children, too.

First Week After Surgery

Regardless of the type of brow lift you get, you’ll experience swelling. Swelling usually reduces after a couple of days if you get an endoscopic procedure.

If you get an open procedure, you’ll likely experience some bleeding paired with your swelling. You’ll want to take a week off of work.

Your surgeon will take your stitches out a week after your procedure—open or endoscopic.
