CommonSpirit鈥檚 legacy of providing high-performing, compassionate care in Utah began more than 148 years ago, when the Sisters of the Holy Cross founded Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake City in 1875. It was the second hospital established in Utah, and it had just 13 beds and three doctors who worked without payment. CommonSpirit Health purchased its five Utah hospitals in 2023, returning them to their Catholic heritage and strengthening the values-driven health care offerings in Utah.
