Episode Transcript

Interviewer: What is the best way to quit smoking? Dr. Clint Allred is a cardiologist. What does research say?

Dr. Allred: First and foremost, the most important decision is making the decision to stop smoking. When you come to that decision, incorporate the help of your doctor as they can provide medications to you that are the best studied means of stopping smoking.

That said, the first attempt may not necessarily be successful. Many smokers require multiple attempts before they finally successfully quit, and that's okay. Once they do incorporate the help of their doctor, then the doctor can help them find alternative means that they may not have tried previously. And these medications have been shown through research to be more effective than alternative methods tried by individuals on their own.
